97. Sabina von Steinbach (German, c. 13th-14th century)

Sabina von Steibbach was the daughter of the master architect of the Strasbourg Cathedral and is reputed to have sculpted the images of The Church and The Synagogue from the Cathedral which appear above. This woman's existence and work is now in doubt, and documentation of her work on the Strasbourg cathedral only dates to 1617. However, women stonemasons were in existence, and there are illustrations of women masons and sculptors from the Middle Ages.
