Monday Matchup: Der Raupen Wunderbare Verwandlung Und Sonderbare Blumennahrung by Maria Sibylla Merian
And for those of you who don't know what Der Raupen Wunderbare Verwandlung Und Sonderbare Blumennahrung is, it's a naturalist science text about butterflies and moths written in the 17th century by Maria Sibylla Merian. The title translates as The Miraculous Transformation and Unusual Flower-Food of Caterpillars.
Art students throughout time have copied the masters, so if you have artistic talent, I would encourage you to try this. And if you have no artistic talent, I would encourage you to try this. ;)
Each time I go to an art museum, I try to recreate one piece in my notebook--free hand. I was actually fairly successful with THIS Picasso.
Which makes today's Monday Matchup entry both a Woman Artist and a Woman Scientist.
